The Achilles tendon is one of the longest tendons in the human body. This tendon connects the heel bone to the calf. The Achilles tendon is commonly injured from activity such as running, jumping, climbing...overuse of the tendon is a common cause of injury in children.
Children's foot problems are usually caused by biological reasons, injury/activity, or due to growing. Some children are born with foot problems that need to be treated or they will simply grow out of, others have growing pains from their bones growing too quickly/slowly. A common cause is injury from children being children. Sports, horsing around, or shoes can lead to foot problems in children.
Sports Causing Injury Can Include:
- Soccer
- Football
- Gymnastics
- Hockey
- Lacrosse
Prevention of These Injuries:
- Shoes
- Stretching
- Analyzing Gait
Treatment:
- Rest
- Ice
- Compression
- Elevation
If your child is experiencing pain, especially during sports, you should have them checked by a doctor. In order to prevent a lengthy or more serious recovery, your doctor will be able to diagnose and treat the problem. Children who are involved in seriously competitive sports may try to minimize the pain, however, an Achilles tendon issue will not go away if left untreated.
