Often times we hear how flat fleet can lead to many foot problems but today I want to talk to you about how high arches can cause foot problems. High arches can sometimes actually lead to more serious problems than flat feet. Similar to flat feet, many people are born with high arches.

If you have high arches, your foot can become very rigid and will not bend as easily. Therefore, when you are running and even walking, you can experience a great amount of pain. Over time, a high arch foot will usually develop painful calluses on the balls of the feet and cause painful heels as the foot is unable to properly absorb and distribute the forces of walking.

If untreated, you are likely to experience common problems such as Achilles tendonitis, stress fractures, ankle instability, and fallen arches. People high arches will usually have hammertoes and calluses. It can be painful to walk and run. Furthermore, people with high arches have a higher likelihood of ankle sprains due to the instability in their feet.

There are many simple ways to treat high arches without having to go through surgery. The best way to treat high arches is by getting customized orthotics. Customized orthotics will increase your stability and reduce your pain.  In addition to orthotics, fitted shoes will alleviate the pain. Braces are used to help stabilize the foot and offer support.

Just with customized orthotics and proper fitting shoes, your quality of life will be 100 times better! You no longer will have to walk or run with pain and can resume to your normal daily activities. Your feet will thank you after making a visit to a podiatrist.
