Real Housewives of Atlanta star, Claudia Jordan, claims that her reason for not having foot surgery is due to her being scared, not money problems. In a recent episode, Claudia Jordan, brought a friend to visit a doctor to have her feet examined.  While the doctor claimed the case was the mild, the friend of Ms. Jordan looked disgusted! According to the doctor, she was suffering from a slew of foot problems including bunions.

Many are asking the Real Housewives of Atlanta star why she has not gone through with the surgery.  Many are even claiming finances are the real reason she has not had the surgery. Ms. Jordan denied accusations and claims, saying she has not had the surgery because she is too scared of the pain. She also claims that her busy schedule will not allow her the time to fully heal.

This is a common complaint we see with many of our patients. “I don’t have time to take off of work,” “I can’t be off my feet!” We have begun to see a pattern in our office. Many people do not have a clear understanding of what bunion surgery is and what to expect.  Often, people go off of a story their grandmother told them when she had bunion surgery….years and years ago.

The first concern we hear is, how long will I be off my feet? The amount of time you can expect to be off your feet will depend on how mild or severe the case.  If you have a mild case, your recovery time may be much less than you thought. Many mild case bunion surgery patients have returned to work within 2 weeks, some mild cases where people have a "desk job" they have returned in as little as 3 days. ! This is why it is so important to visit a podiatrist the moment you notice a problem in your feet. The earlier you address your problem, the easier the treatment can be!

Furthermore, people assume they are going to be in a lot of pain following the surgery.  As with any surgery, you can expect some pain, discomfort, and soreness. However, most people only report slight pain and discomfort, much less than they expected. Also, the doctors at Family Foot & Ankle Specialists are on call 24/7; they give their personal cell phone numbers to each surgery patient with the encouragement to call with ANY concerns.

In order to save yourself unnecessary pain, spending and time off your feet, see a podiatrist as soon as notice any changes or problems in your feet and ankles.
