Do you keep your shoes on all the time because you are ashamed of your stinky feet? Don't worry, you aren't the only one. Many people suffer from Bromhydrosis, the medical term for smelly feet. The causes range from hormones to shoes. Thankfully there are some easy ways to prevent and treat stinky feet.

Why do they sweat so much?

The function of sweat glands is to keep the skin moist and to regulate temperature There are more sweat glands in our feet than anywhere else in our entire body. Unlike sweat glands elsewhere in the body, the sweat glands in the feet secrete all the time, not just in response to heat or exercise. So it's sweat overload!

Why Do Your Feet Stink?

The main causes of sweaty and smelly feet are:

1. Wearing the same shoes every day. Feet become smelly if sweat soaks into the shoes and you wear them again before they are dry.

2. Poor personal hygiene.

3. Hormonal changes can cause feet to sweat more, so teenagers and women are especially prone.

4. A condition called hyperhydrosis which causes you to sweat more than usual.

Get Rid of Stinky Feet

The best way to prevent smelly feet is good personal hygiene and not wearing the same shoes two days in a row. Wash your feet every day and dry them thoroughly, especially between the toes. You should also wear clean socks every day and hange them throughout the day if you notice they're wet. Cotton or wool socks are much better than nylon.

A great way to preventsweaty feet, is an antiperspirant. A deoderant for feet acts just like an antipersperant for your under arms. It can help keep your feet dry and prevent sweat from beginning. Make an appointment with one of our doctors if want to discuss the best treatment for your stinky feet.
