The American Diabetes Association recommends that everyone with diabetes should see their podiatrist yearly. If you have a more severe case then that will need to increase and your doctor will be able to tell you when you should return for regular check ups.  Many diabetic don't necessarily understand why they need to see a podiatrist and how diabetes will effect their feet.

It is very common for those with diabetes to develop neuropathy, lose of feeling in their feet. This will not allow the person to feel when there is a problem with the foot such as shoes that are rubbing, a cut, or that they have stepped on something. This will lead to infections, bone infections, and ulcers. The greatest risk, and all too common for diabetics, is facing an amputation.
